Scripture: Luke 1:1-25
Observation: The angel Gabriel tells Zechariah that he will be a father. Zechariah finds this hard to believe since he's up in years, and so he loses his voice. Elizabeth becomes pregnant and stays in seclusion for five months. Her words in verse 25 caught my attention. She feels God has looked favorably on her after the disgrace she's endured.
Application: It seems unfair that Elizabeth felt disgraced over something she couldn't control - her lack of children. Yet how many times are people discriminated against today? Race, nationality, handicap, all kinds of reasons that, to many, are a justified excuse to discriminate. But Jesus taught us to treat others the way we wish to be treated. Discrimination is wrong, even if society thinks it's okay.
Prayer: Lord, You died for everyone. When You laid down Your life, You didn't exclude anyone from the opportunity to accept You as Savior. If we are all the same in Your eyes, sinners that need salvation, who am I to treat others less than myself? May I have a heart like Yours, willing to love everyone regardless of race, nationality, or status. I don't want to judge so that I'm not judged as well. In Christ Jesus, Amen.
