Scripture: Luke 4:1-13
Observation: The devil tempts Jesus. The first two times satan tries to bring Jesus down by using personal attacks; first using Jesus's hunger to his advantage, then offering Jesus all the kingdoms of the world. When Jesus answers satan both times with Scripture, the devil uses a different tactic; he quotes Scripture himself, but in a twisted way. Jesus doesn't fall for it, and the devil leaves defeated.
Application: Just because a preacher uses the Word of God doesn't mean he's preaching truth. The devil twists the Word and uses others to do the same. I need to be in the Word and in prayer to be sure the devil doesn't deceive me with his lies as he's done to so many.
Prayer: Father, Your enemy is lurking everywhere, even in places of worship. So many churches in the world claim to be spreading the gospel, but upon closer examination we see they are spreading their own agenda. Keep me alert, Lord, protected against the enemy's attacks. Show me Your will for my life and Your truths in Your Word, and do not let false teachers and prophets confuse me. You alone are truth, and You alone are God. In Jesus' name, Amen.
