Luke 4, Part 2

Scripture: Luke 4:14-30

Observation: Jesus preaches in Nazareth, where He was raised. The people here were His neighbors, who knew Him and His family. Yet they drove Him out of their presence because they didn't like what He was saying and didn't believe this son of Joseph had any authority to tell them what they were doing wrong.

Application: It's easier to present the Gospel to a stranger than to our own family and friends. The stranger may be more willing to listen than our own family. Jesus knew the Nazareans wouldn't accept Him, yet He went to preach to them anyway. Our responsibility is to preach the Gospel. Whether it is accepted or not is not in our power, but to let the good news of Jesus be known is.

Prayer: Father, I've encountered opposition to Your Word from the people closest to me, and at times it's discouraging. I want my family and friends to know the joy of having a relationship with You, yet they reject the notion. Give me wisdom to continue proclaiming Your truth, and peace even when that truth is rejected. It is in Your timing that the Gospel is received. I need only speak Your Word, and You'll take care of the rest. Thank You for Your faithfulness; I leave my loved ones in Your hands. In Christ Jesus, Amen.
