Luke 6, Part 3

Scripture: Luke 6:17-31

Observation: The Sermon on the Mount. This sermon became famous because it was radically different from what the Jews were doing. Jesus was teaching the people to do to others as they wanted done to them. He taught kindness to all, even enemies.

Application: What Jesus taught was altogether different from what is popular in our culture today, too. We live in the "Me" generation, but Jesus taught us to put the needs of others before our own. Blessings would come from suffering, and our ultimate reward would be eternal, not like the riches of the world which are temporary.

Prayer: Father, it's easy to want what we can see, what is popular at the moment. But I want what I can't see, the eternal reward which brings true joy. I realize that to reach that goal I have to experience all kinds of discomfort in my life first. Please remind me Lord, that this life is short, and anything I experience here is nothing compared to the pain You experienced on the cross. Thanks to that suffering I have the hope of eternal life. Thank You so much for Your loving sacrifice. In Your Precious Name I pray, Amen,
