Luke 4, Part 3

Scripture: Luke 4:31-44

Observation: Jesus teaches in Capernaum. A man possessed by a demon comes and proclaims Jesus is the Holy One of God. Jesus rebukes the demon and he leaves. Later Jesus heals Peter's mother-in-law from a fever. When the crowds hear this, they bring their sick for healing. They also bring those prossessed by demons, who again shout that Jesus is the Son of God, but He rebukes them. He then leaves to continue proclaiming the Gospel.

Application: The demons recognize Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God. They know His power and what He can do to them. Yet they don't turn from evil. Just because someone knows that Jesus is the Christ doesn't mean they're saved. We need to repent, turn away from evil, and turn to Jesus, otherwise we are no different than His enemies.

Prayer: Father, keep me in Your Word. That's where Your truths are, not in the mouths of men. Many claim to teach Your truths, but if Scripture isn't being taught, or it's being taught in a twisted way, there is not truth. I want to remain in Your Word each day, learning something new each day and refreshing what You've already taught me, so that I can be prepared to defend Your Word against false teachings. In Your Name I pray, Amen.
