Luke 5, Part 3

Scripture: Luke 5:27-39

Observation: The Pharisees begin questioning Jesus' actions. The religious leaders of Jesus' day had become so accustomed to their traditional ways, they couldn't understand where Jesus was coming from. He ate with tax collectors and sinners! He wouldn't fast! But Jesus explained that He came to lead sinners to repentance, and that there would come a time for fasting and prayer. He also told the parable of the wineskins, telling them His way wouldn't mix with their way (Judaism), but many would prefer the old way.

Application: The Gospel may be appealing to some, but the change is not something they're ready for. Their lifestyle is comfortable, and change is difficult. Am I willing to accept the changes Jesus brings to my life, even if it means stepping out of my comfort zone?

Prayer: Father, You know better than anyone that I don't like change. Yet I also realize that the changes You make in my life are for my own good. I pray I will be accepting of Your will, even when it means moving out of my comfort zone into a new area You have prepared for me. As You tell me in Jeremiah 29:11, the plans You have for me are for good, and I trust in You. In Christ Jesus, Amen.
