Mark 15, Part 2

Scripture: Mark 15:33-47

Observation: Death and burial of our Lord Jesus. What a sad and painful day for Christ's followers! Their teacher had suffered a ghastly death. Two things stand out in today's reading: first, the temple curtain was torn, meaning Jesus was now our access to the Father. Second, the bravery of Joseph of Arimathea, who requested Jesus' body. As a member of the Sanhedrin, asking for Jesus's body put him at odds with the council. Still, Joseph knew what was right and didn't let fear or the opinions of others stop him.

Application: We now have access to the Father thru Jesus. Are we taking full advantage? Joseph stood for Jesus even though all his friends and collegues did not. Do I have that kind of bravery?

Prayer: Father, You opened the door to Your presence when You sent Your Son to die on the cross. Thank You for that act of love and kindness. May I show the kind of bravery Joseph of Arimathea had, and stand up for Your Son and His Holy Name, as a sign of my own love and gratitude for Your blessing. In Christ Jesus, Amen.
