Mark 16

Scripture: Mark chapter 16

Observation: Christ's resurrection and ascension to heaven. When the women go to anoint Jesus, they find the tomb empty. An angel tells them Jesus has risen, and they run to tell the disciples, who don't believe. Two others see Jesus, but no one believes them, either. Jesus then appears to the 11 and rebukes them for their unbelief.

Application: The disciples received the best news ever, yet they refused to believe. We have God's Word and all His assurances, yet at times we also experience unbelief. At these times God rebukes and corrects us for our own hardness of heart, for our disobedience and distrust of His promises, so that we will learn to fully trust in Him.

Prayer: Father, I know and believe that You sent Jesus to die for my sins, and that You rose Him on the third day. Yet at times I hear Your Words and doubt they may be for me. I see how they apply to others, but not to myself. Help my unbelief, Lord! Convict me and make me see that ALL Your Word is useful for teaching, but also for reproof and correction (2 Tim. 3:16) and work in my heart so that I will gladly accept that correction. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
