Luke 8, Part 1

Scripture: Luke 8:1-15

Observation: The parable of the sower. Jesus gives a parable explaining why everyone who hears the Word doesn't have the same experience. Some hear, but the enemy comes in and takes the Word from their hearts; they just don't believe. Others have no root. They hear and believe, but not enough to withstand times of testing. Then there are those drowned by thorns, or the cares of the world. They try to take care of their troubles themselves instead of giving them to the Lord. The ones that bear fruit are those who hold fast to the Word with an honest and pure heart.

Application: These same people exist today. Jesus let us know not everyone who heard the Word would accept it. My concern must be my own heart. Am I holding fast to the Word? Or is the enemy or the cares of the world drowning Him out?

Prayer: Father, for me to hold fast to Your Word in my heart, I must read it daily, meditate on it, pray it, and use it in every aspect of my life. May Your Word be the driving force in my life, Lord. May it speak to me with wisdom each day. And may I accept this wisdom as it teaches me to live my life thoroughly and completely for You. In Christ Jesus, Amen.
